Guest of 2000 Regards, came very specially fom Japan, Prof. Nozomu IWASAKI a specialist of abyssal fauna from the University of Kochi, Japan.


Current appointment (position and institution):Associate professor Usa Marine Biological Institute, Kochi University.

He is the author of numerous sciientific publications on the underwater ocean deeps.

His main researches have been during those lastyears :

1) Taxonomy and ecology of deep-sea pelagic shrimps in the western Pacific Ocean from the Bering Sea to the Antarctic Ocean: joined in research cruises of the R/V Hakuho-Maru and the R/V Tansei Maru in the Japanese waters, western Pacific and the Antarctic Ocean.
2) Ecology and food web study of deep-sea animals using the ROV Kaiko and a seafloor observatory system for monitoring submarine earthquakes: produced a documentary entitled “Life in the Abyss” based on this study.
3) Taxonomy and ecology of benthic copepods in the coastal waters of Japan, New Zealand and Australia, and the deep-sea bottoms from a part of an environmental assessment of manganese nodules mining.
4) Biodiversity and food web study in the Malaysian coral waters.
5) Sustainable use and biohistory of precious corals.

Prof. Nozomu IWASAKI is also the author of a scintific film that will be presented on Saturday the 18 th. of March in the ARTS Space of the PRADET within the framework of the Thematique Eveningabout Ocean Deeps: “Life in the Abyss“ 4 years observations in Nankai Trough, Japan”

Awarded the Special Award for Underwater Education, 7th International Underwater Film Festival,Beograd, 2003.

Awarded the Highly Commended, Celebrate The Sea Festival, Kuala Lunpur 2004.
